Half Of The Day Is Done

Half the day is done, so let's talk OFC and UEFA

Hello everyone! I'm on here a little earlier than usual, and I already know some of the scores for the matches that took place today. Instead of waiting to do an entire Combo post later (though they are fun) I'll split today in half. Right now I'll cover the Oceania Qualifiers and the UEFA Loser Play-offs.

Oceania Qualifiers: Semifinals- The Results are in, and seeing as how the tournament has been going from the start, they aren't exactly a surprise. New Zealand once again thumped their opponents pretty hard, as they beat the Solomon Islands 8-0. Papua New Guinea won their Semifinal 1-0 against the Cook Islands. So, the Cook Islands will face off against the Solomon Islands in the consolation game for 3rd place, while New Zealand and Papua New Guinea will go head to head in the All-Or-Nothing Final match. The winner gets to pack up and head to Germany in 2011. The loser stays home in Oceania and can watch from their TV's. All I have to say is...good luck Papua New Guinea.

UEFA Loser Play-offs- Italy played against Ukraine today in the last match for their first round of play-offs. The first leg was 3-0 in favor of Italy, so the Italians didn't really have to kill themselves over it; the pressure was all on Ukraine. An aggregate like that is tough to come back from, and Ukraine just couldn't do it today. The match ended 0-0, which means Italy will be facing off against the winner of the Switzerland-Denmark match in the 2nd round of loser play-offs. Whoever wins that will be named the 5th spot team in UEFA, and will have the ability to play-off against the 3rd place CONCACAF team for the final spot in the Women's World Cup.

That's it for now everyone. Later, I'll be writing about the USWNT vs. China PR match, and maybe about some WPS transfer news/rumors.

Don't forget to tune in to see the USWNT take on China PR. Its on ESPN 2 starting at 7pm ET.

Enjoy the match!

See you again soon,

Denise
